The Brother-sister war, the lemonade war.

The lemonade war by author Jacqueline Davies is a fun, exciting, brother sister war. It starts in a hot, dry, sweaty day with a few days of summer break left. Our main characters Jessie and Evan are brothers and sister and Evan is a 4th grader who is constantly bored during the summer and his super smart sister who is skipping a grade to join Evan in 4th grade and Evan is not happy. But they both had lemonade stands in common and Jessie loved to do the stand with Evan but Evan was annoyed with her. So enjoy “the lemonade war” a brother and sister rivalry about who could make 100 dollars in 4 days by earning the money by the lemonade stand. Who do you think will win? Do you have an annoying sibling?

The “Awkward” Book Blog 11/16

The book Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova is an amazing Realistic Fiction/Cartoon Graphic novel. It is a book about a kid named Penelope Torres, an artist in the art club who has an incident with a lonely, smart, shy kid named Jaime Thompson. They had an awkward situation of Penelope tripping in the Hall, and Jaime trying to help her pick up her things but, she pushes him away and the rest of the story is most of that storyline with the Ethel of more conflicts within her life. My Favorite part of the book is where the students go on a field trip to a museum and have a giant scavenger hunt throughout the museum and it’s a really cool bonding experience with the characters and it’s also an intense moment in the book. There are some mature topics in the book but I’m sure you as a reader can handle them. All over there is a fun, colorful book with a few conflicts, not that long/hard of a book and just a fun read. Hopefully you as the reader will check this book out and enjoy it as much as I did.

Outsiders Book/Movie comparison

Differences between the Book and movie:

There were Quite a few differences in the movie compared to the book. The first difference I noticed is that the drive-in scene happened in chapter 2 of the book but it happened really early in the movie, that scene happened within the first 5 minutes of the movie. Another scene that was different is that Ponyboy was supposed to be smacked like in the book but instead in the movie, he was pushed which I felt if he was smacked it would have changed the whole mood of the movie. Also in the novel of course everything took time to develop and every person was well detailed and introduced but in the movie they barely gave any introduction at all to any of the characters and when they met a character you had to wait until the character's name was said until you could recognize them. Another major difference was that all the characters were barely given screen-time and only the major characters were really showed in the movie. No one was also really escribed and really introduced which bothered me and the movie could have been longer, it was really short in my opinion. Another scene that was different from the novel was that the photographer scene never happened, the photos they took for the newspaper, that scene never happened in the movie which kind of bothered me. It could have been a somewhat important scene in the movie because it shows them being recognized for what they did. Finally, johnny’s mom never yelled at the greasers. That would have also been a really funny scene in my opinion and it would have shown how his mom really felt about the kids.

Similarities between the Book and Movie:

There quite a few similarities from the book to movie because most stuff need to be pretty accurate. For starters, the beginning of the book literally started off the same way the book started off with Ponyboy saying, “When I stepped out into the Bright light.” Which is the exactly like the book to movie. Another similarity is Jonny killing the soc, that scene was pretty accurate. Ponyboy being drowned and then him passing out then johnny killing the soc and the pony throwing up. The poem scene is also the same as it is in the book, kind of how I imagined it in my head but that scene was pretty exact which is felt is a good thing because it was a pretty important part in the book. The dairy queen scene was also pretty accurate in the movie and it kind of had to be because it was a super important scene in the book where we find out that cherry is a spy. The “Stay a Gold” quote from Johnny’s letter to pony is also of course another super duper major part in the story because it's sad and tells Ponyboy to stay true from someone who means a lot to him.

Evaluation of the director and actors:

So I thought overall, the movie was pretty darn amazing. It just bothered me that the scenes were rushed and none of the characters were fully introduced and I also feel the movie was really short, it could have been much longer and everyone would have still loved it. Some of the actors I really couldn’t picture in the roles though, it was weird to see Tom Cruise act all crazy and kind of weird compared to the spy and action movies he does. Rob Lowe was also kind of weird because he's so tall and slender which kind of fit the character but was just weird in my opinion. But overall I thought all the actors did well in their roles and it was a great book to film adaptation.

Quarter 1 reflection

This quarter has gone by fast for me and has been pretty interesting. I was out a couple of days and it set me behind and it was a pretty stressful time trying to get caught up but I eventually did. My classes have been a little challenging depending on the class but other than that have gone by super fast and have been more higher up in class work/homework if that makes sense. My grades for this quarter are pretty good except for I think one class where my stupid CEL grade is at a 1 which I still ink the CEL grades are really stupid. For next time I could ask for more extra assignments or I could have made more of an effort in certain classes and  trying to ask for more help in order to be successful next quarter. Also after school I wasn't in any clubs but am panning to get into more clubs this next and upcoming quarter. Other than all these things this quarter has been pretty decent overall.

My Identity

There's a lot that shapes who I am. Music is a really big piece of me. Music is pretty much everything to me, I can socialize with people around the topic, I can listen to music that can pretty much distract me from anything that Is going on the world right now or just something I can just purely enjoy. I enjoy playing music and making my own things just as much as I enjoy listening to music. I feel like biking or being outside is a big part of me, I really enjoy being outside and just biking or skating around is just really fun. Also anything really with Technology makes up a big part of who I am, technology is all around me and it's something that is pretty much around me constantly. I am a big brother (not the best) which is also a lot to me because I have someone who l see every day and someone who I have to teach or influence to be the best possible person they can be. There is a lot that makes up who I am but I feel like these are the things that are the most important to me and just make up who I am.

"Falling" for Canada

It was Spring break 2 years ago. The house was full of a Spring breeze flowing through the windows. The house was silent until my dad yelled, "We're going to Canada!". I was super exciting! The feeling of taking a trip to a different country and going to a different place was just crazy. It was pretty sudden but boy did it make me super anxious to leave and get on the road. After packing my family and I prepared for a 12 hour drive. Now 12 hours for me seemed like nothing but after in the car, I was ready to just jump out of the car. As we made stops, took breaks, and drove through different states. We slowly got closer to Niagara Falls. Finally, after 12 hours of sitting in a car in one cramped position I was so relieved to see a sign that read, "Canada Border, 3 Miles". I had never been more relieved in my life! We finally made it! As soon as we crossed onto a bridge connecting New York and Canada we saw the falls. In my mind everything just stopped for a minute, everything tuned out and all I was focusing on was The Falls. It was truly amazing, we rolled down the windows to let in a gust of cold wind and a light mist traveling over the road. After being in total amazement we checked into our hotel and saw the amazing view from the hotel of The Falls (Image here). After
admiring the view we all fell quickly asleep.
(That was the hotel I stayed in and in the back of the building we had a view seeing inside the falls)

The next day we went out to be the tourists we are and explore a part of Canada know as Niagara Falls. It was truly an amazing place and was full of pretty exciting things to do there. We first went to the this sort of museum/sort of viewing deck. We had gone through a gift shop which led to an entrance to the viewing deck for the falls but the entrance to the view decking was also kind of like a mini museum. After exploring inside we finally got the to viewing deck and oh was it amazing. It was truly really amazing. The cold air and mist blew over once again and the sound of loud rushing water filled the sounds around you. After taking photos and admiring the falls we ended up at this seafood place which of course, with my luck, got me kind of sick. The cold weather also didn't help with that but afterward we just called it a night.

The next day was our last and final day (we actually stayed 4 days but nothing exciting happened one day but) we found this comic book store and I am a huge nerd so I was just in amazement at the store. The store was pretty big so I think we were inside the store for about an hour and a half. After doing some shopping and exploring we did this family photo but it was inside of a shop where they had old era clothes and different types of themes you could dress in. So my dad wanted us to dress up in old gangster (Al Capone themed) and it was pretty cool, we took the photos and from there we left to head back to Illinois. This trip was pretty amazing for me and I had a great time. Also, as we got home we didn't even unpack or anything we just all fell asleep right away which was kind of funny to me. This trip just meant a lot, do you have any trips that are memorable to you?

In 10 Years

In 10 years I hope that I'm pretty much done with school, honestly I really want school to be over with, hopefully with the skills and knowledge I gain from school I can move on with my life and do the things I want to do. I also hope that for college I can go to a school with a good arts or music programs or maybe a good engineering program. Now for after school or during my own time I like playing the guitar and playing/listening/making my own music so I hope in 10 years I hope I'm still doing that. Maybe I'll have my own album or something. Another thing I hope I'm doing in 10 years is still biking, I really love biking and I bike whenever I really can. Maybe I won't have a car and I'll just have a bike in 10 years. I really don't know a whole lot about what I'm going to do in the future but technology and music are both really big things in my life so maybe I can create something involving the both of them or maybe just doing something that involves either one of them. In 10 years I honestly just hope I'll be okay if anything. (Dream Guitar down below)
